Thank you for selecting this quality Griot's product. Do you live in an area with hard water that is full of minerals? The Portable Water Deionizer is designed to remove hard water minerals and leave your vehicle spot-free. Enjoy the best!
Deionized water has had its mineral ions removed by a process which uses specially-manufactured ion exchange resins which bind to and filter out hard water minerals from water. Because the majority of water impurities are dissolved, deionization produces highly purified water.
Assembly Instructions
- Attach diverter assembly to the tank manifold by gently pushing into the manifold ports. Hand tighten connector rings clockwise until snug. (Picture A)
- Next attach the inlet and outlet fittings to the diverter assembly. Hand tighten connector rings clockwise until snug. (Picture B)
- Connect the supplied feeder hose to the inlet port of the Portable Water Deionizer and to your water supply.
- Finally connect your water hose to the outlet port of the unit.

Useful Instructions
To use the Portable Water Deionizer you will need to turn the diverter valves to the appropriate position. To wash with filtered water you must set the diverter valves to "Filter" position. If you wish to use "unfiltered" water, you must set the valves to the "Bypass" position.
Diverter Valves
The Portable Water Deionizer uses two diverter valves to control water flow through the filter.
-
Filter Position: (Diagram A)
Rotate the inlet diverter valve towards the back of the cylinder to direct the flow into the filter and the outlet diverter valve towards the front of the cylinder to direct the flow out to the wash hose.
-
Bypass Position: (Diagram B)
Rotate the inlet and outlet diverter valves inward toward one another. This allows the flow to bypass the filter.

Expected Usage
The life of the ion exchange resin depends on the amount of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) that are present in your water. Lower TDS allow a longer filter life. See the table below to show the water volume expected from your water quality TDS.
Expected Usage (Cont'd)
TDS Level - Parts Per Million (ppm) |
*Expected Yield - Gallons of Water |
---|---|
50 | 1410 |
100 | 705 |
200 | 353 |
400 | 176 |
*Expected Yield based on a flow rate of 4 gallons per minute.
We offer a TDS Meter to help you measure the quality of your water and to gauge the filter efficiency. You may also contact you local water district for the TDS estimates in your region.
Replacement Filter Resin
Griot's Garage offers Replacement Filter Resin. It is recommended to replace the resin when the TDS of the output water is equal to the TDS of your tap water. Start by unscrewing the diverter valve assembly from the top of the filter housing. Remove the feed tube from the housing and pour out the used resin into a trash bag for disposal. Insert the feed tube and fill the filter housing with new replacement resin. Clean any resin beads from the threads before reattaching the diverter valve assembly to the housing. Tighten until snug.
Caution
In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with water for at least 5 minutes if filter resin particles enter eyes. There is no chemical irritation hazard. Skin contact is okay; wash with soap and water. Ingestion is not recommended, although it is not harmful if swallowed. Do not inhale. As with all garage equipment, please KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS. MSDS available on request.
